A Strong Foundation in Medicine
Joshua Herts DO earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science with a minor in Psychology from Liberty University. He then completed his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Riverside Regional Medical Center. During his residency, he received several honors recognizing his clinical skills and dedication to his field, including the Outstanding Minimally Invasive Surgery Resident Award, an AAGL Recognition of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology, and an Excellence in Teaching Award.
His education and training have given Dr. Herts a strong foundation in obstetric and gynecologic care while supporting his interest in providing personalized treatment for each patient.
Discovering a Passion for OBGYN
Joshua Herts DO initially entered medical school with plans to pursue emergency medicine. During his clinical rotations, however, he discovered a passion for obstetrics and gynecology.
He was drawn to the lasting relationships OBGYN physicians develop with their patients. Rather than providing care during a single visit or procedure, Dr. Herts appreciates the opportunity to remain involved in his patients’ care over time.
He especially values the combination of surgery and long-term care. After performing a procedure, he enjoys continuing to care for his patients and supporting their recovery. This ability to build relationships that extend beyond a single appointment is one of the aspects of OBGYN that Dr. Herts finds most rewarding.

Life Outside the Office
Outside of work, Joshua Herts DO enjoys spending time outdoors with his daughter, Hannah. He loves exploring the mountains, walking the Blackwater Creek Trail, hiking, biking, and discovering a good coffee shop.
Originally from Yorktown, VA, Dr. Herts and his wife, Sadie, recently moved to Lynchburg. They are excited to put down roots, grow their family, and become part of the local community.
His appreciation for the outdoors and time with family reflects the importance he places on connection and balance outside of his work in healthcare.
