What Your First Weight Loss Management Appointment May Look Like

Our physician-led weight loss management program is designed to educate patients on making positive, healthy lifestyle choices through nutritional counseling. Dr. Marraccini strives to provide her patients with the right tools to succeed in their wellness journey for a lifetime. Here is what you can expect from your first weight loss management appointment:

You will fill out a health questionnaire that allows us to better get to know you, your exercise and eating patterns, current obstacles and health goals.

We will screen for health conditions such as depression, binge eating, sleep apnea and adverse childhood events. This is an important step prior to creating your health and fitness plan, as certain events may negatively impact your decision making around food, and we want to be able to address this with compassion and understanding.

At Women’s Health of Central Virginia, we use the latest technology to accurately measure your body’s key metrics such as fat, muscle, bone density and water.

Improving Health, our weight loss management program, is all about you and your health and fitness goals. This is the time to ask any questions and express any concerns you may have in regards to your wellness journey with us. Our team will work with you to make sure you have set realistic, positive goals with a feasible timeline.

Depending on your situation, we may also recommend doing a fasting lab. This helps  Dr. Marraccini and our team make additional diagnoses such as diabetes, high cholesterol, liver disease and nutritional deficiencies.

Creating A Customized Weight Loss Management Plan For You

Anyone can buy a fitness and nutrition plan online but it may not be catered to you and your body. At Women’s Health of Central Virginia, we take a personalized approach to weight loss management to ensure your unique health and nutritional needs are met.

We take your food preferences into consideration before developing your nutrition plan. For instance, if you don’t like certain types of fish or vegetables, we will not include those in your meal plan. The goal is to create a simple, straightforward plan that will allow you to make smart, healthy choices.

We will write a workout plan that is easy to follow.

You will use a calendar to track food and drink intake, exercise and sleep. We know this may sound like a tedious task, but studies show that tracking your nutrition, such as keeping a food diary, helps in weight loss.

We will discuss previous behaviors that may have negatively contributed to your health and how to replace them with positive changes that will last.
