NOVASURE® ENDOMETRIAL ABLATION
NovaSure® is a procedure for women who are premenopausal and finished with childbearing. It is a one time, quick and safe procedure that can help lighten or end heavy periods. Women who suffer very heavy menstrual cycles often need an endometrial ablation to remove the endometrium. With NovaSure® you no longer have to accept heavy periods that interfere with your lifestyle.
How Does it Work?
The NovaSure procedure involves several simple steps generally performed in an outpatient surgical setting at any time during your monthly cycle. The steps include:
- The doctor will slightly open the cervix to insert a hysteroscope, a device to visualize the inside of the uterus. Then, if acceptable, it is removed and a slender wand that will extend a triangular mesh device into the uterus is placed
- The mesh will gently expand to fit the size and shape of your uterus
- NovaSure ® endometrial ablation delivers bipolar RF energy through the mesh for approximately 90 seconds as it gently removes the lining of the uterus
- The mesh device is then retracted into the wand and both are removed and the procedure is complete
After NovaSure®, your doctor will give you instructions to follow for a short recovery period at home.
